It was great to see the green and black out in force last week at Lakeside Stadium for the Shield Final. With 3 teams being represented, this was our largest number of teams in finals for quite some time.
Our Open Women were trying to retain the glory of winning, however with strong contention from the other teams, we were able to secure 3rd place. All girls did a fantastic job and we congratulate them all.
Our U20 Women were strong on the track and with some of the girls doing events they might only have tried once they were also able to secure 3rd place.
Our U20 Men had done a fine job all season with only 3 boys eligible to make the finals. The three boys soon turned to 2 and half with an injury prior to the day, the aim was not to come last. The three boys were successful in finishing sixth.
Our aim moving ahead next season is to field more than the 3 teams we had this year. We therefore encourage all our athletes to compete early in the season and try a variety of events to make sure you qualify along with your team. We understand aths is an individual sport, however Sandringham have thrived in the past of being a real team and we encourage you all to arrive at any of the venues with enough time to talk to committe, catch up with team mates, ask any questions and support team Sandy along the way.
The season now moves into the individual championships.
This weekend is the AV Junior Championships from Friday 12/2-Sunday 14/4. If you are competing we wish you all the best. Make sure you check the AV website for the updated timetable and make sure you register on time and also report to the call room on time. A number of parents will be allocated duties and we ask for your assistance in ensuring this runs smoothly.
